Although teenage females in Berrien County continue to have a higher estimated teenage pregnancy rate (68.4 per 1,000 females 15-19 years in 2005) than teenage females in Michigan (52.2 per 1,000 females 15-19 years in 2005), there has been a definite decline in the rate since 1989. Benton Harbor City (185.9 per 1,000 females 15-19 years) had the highest teenage pregnancy rate in Berrien County in 2005.

*Pregnancies are the sum of Live Births, Abortions and Estimated Miscarriages. Miscarriages are estimates adapted from a model developed by C. Tietz and J. Bongaarts of the Population Council (20% of the live births and 10% of the abortions). Abortions for females 10-19 are used in place of 15-19.
